Wood Engraving is a relief printmaking process. The image is cut into wood, often boxwood or maple, or a synthetic substitute like Resingrave. The tools are specialized steel engraving tools. Once the image is complete the block is proofed. Usually a bit of fine tuning is necessary. Then the block can inked and the edition printed either by hand or with a press.
